getting published

Design projects being submitted to Contract require several critical pieces of information to be considered for publication. Please supply us - via regular mail, not e-mail - with the following materials:

Project Description

Please describe your project in terms of the client, program, planning, design solution, and overall scope of work, even in the briefest terms. Also include the date of completion and whether the project has been published by the national design press. The project submitted must not have been published in a magazine as a feature layout in the United States or Canada, however a short mention of the project as a news item is fine.

Photography

To consider a project, we need to see images of the entire space. For example, if you're submitting a corporate space, be sure to include shots of typical workspaces, conference rooms, etc. - not just the lobby and executive offices. Depending on the setting, people are OK, but keep them to a minimum. In terms of styling, less is more (we prefer images without flowers and plants).

You can submit transparencies, slides, prints, or color photocopies for our consideration. If you send a CD, please include color prints of all the images. Our preference for a first-round submission is color inkjet prints or color xeroxes. However if your project is chosen for publication, we'll need color transparencies (high quality duplicates are preferred) for the best visual reproduction or high-resolution digital images. Please note that Contract does not cover photographers' usage fees.

Floor Plans, Sections, Site Plans

In addition to floorplans, please send us any or all of the following: early conceptual sketches, color renderings, elevations, axonometrics, or site plans.

Key Project Team Individuals

Please identify and inform the appropriate individuals in your firm-and at the client?that we will need to interview them for our story should your project be selected for publication. We will discuss such topics as how they participated in the project, key decisions made in planning, design, and construction, or what the project means to the client and the community. Please note that it is essential for us the have access to, and cooperation from, the client.
