Come September, the shops and boutiques lining New York City's
famed Fifth Avenue will welcome the largest Tommy Hilfiger retail
store in the world. The 22,000-sq.-ft. global flagship was designed
by Callison Architects in partnership with the Tommy Hilfiger
creative team.
"This opening is an important and tactical move in our efforts to
further elevate the brand in both the international community and
the U.S," says Fred Gehring, CEO of the Tommy Hilfiger Group.
"Fifth Avenue, with its global significance and blend of luxury
meets accessibility, is the perfect location and alignment for the
brand."
The focal point of the design is a dramatic centralized staircase
that doubles as a viewing platform for a revolving art installation
and ascends a total of four levels. The store features oil-rubbed
bronze metal fixtures as well as a restoration of the building's
façade to its original Indiana limestone. The lower level houses
Hilfiger Denim and provides a bar-inspired wrap desk with stools
and a seating area for lounging. The first floor offers men's
sportswear and is accented with ivory drapes against walnut panels,
channeling the old world charm of a library or a men's club. The
second floor is reserved for the ladies, featuring women's
sportswear and characterized by 1960s Venini chandeliers and a
Brazilian cherry herringbone floor. The third offers the runway
collection and features glass doors that open onto a balcony
overlooking Fifth Avenue.
To commemorate the opening this fall, the store will feature an
exclusive product offering, upscale retail services and a new
global packaging debut with shopping bags and ancillary items made
from 100 percent recycled materials.
