The revolving ice bar in Reunion Tower
San Rafael, Calif.-based EDG Interior Architecture + Design is
designing the interiors for the redevelopment of the 50-story
Reunion Tower and the historic Union Station, both located in
Dallas, Texas. A Chef Wolfgang Puck restaurant and banquet space
will be set atop Reunion Tower and a Wolfgang Puck catering service
will operate the event space on the second floor of Union Station.
Substantial completion of these spaces is expected by year-end
2008.
Both structures adjoin the Hyatt Regency Dallas at the southwestern
gateway to downtown Dallas. The 200-seat restaurant in Reunion
Tower will welcome guests with a circular wine display, located in
the center of the restaurant. The cityscape can be viewed between
an illuminated revolving glass bar on the left and a flamed granite
wood-fire display kitchen on the right. A second bar will be
positioned on the rotating platform itself, facing the view. A
curved wall of charcoal tile will hug the adjacent dining and
lounge space, and within it will be a series of time-lapse
photographs of the Dallas cityscape.
EDG is collaborating with McCall Design Group of San Francisco and
the historic preservation firm Architexas on the renovation of the
Union Station's meeting space. The team is exposing and restoring
the building's original black walls, cast iron facades, quarry tile
floors and paint colors. A newly opened space will serve as a
pre-function area and will reveal the old train mezzanine from
which the stationmaster watched the flow of trains. Two large
windows, flanked by elaborate wood bars, will establish visual
connectivity with downtown Dallas and Reunion Tower. The
refurbished 8,594-sq.-ft. Grand Hall, to host public and private
gala events, will be the keystone of the project.
