University of Colorado Leeds School of Business Earns LEED Gold
May 2, 2008
The Koelbel Building at the University of Colorado Leeds School of
Business in Boulder has earned LEED Gold Certification after
undergoing a $38 million, 65,000-sq.-ft. expansion and
100,000-sq.-ft. renovation.
Designed by ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge and Davis
Partnership Architects, the Koelbel Building was awarded
LEED-NCv2.1 Gold Certification with 44 points.
"Since this is a project that did not start out seeking any
certification, this is a huge accomplishment for all of us who were
involved in the project," says Robert H. Quigley, AIA, principal,
ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge.
The Koelbel building officially opened to students and faculty last
October. The ARC/Davis Partnership Team developed a modern,
sustainable design that not only adheres to strict environmental
and energy conservation standards, but also enhances the learning
experience by facilitating growth, curiosity and interaction.
The new Koelbel Building includes the addition of new classrooms
outfitted with the latest technology, team study rooms, a business
conference center, new offices for business research centers and
faculty, program administration offices for undergraduate and
graduate programs, as well as expanded common spaces. The addition
and renovation also included a two-story library with an
"information commons," a coffee house style space with lounge
furniture, computers, email stations and a full coffee bar.
