A $1.8 million, 3,000-square-foot library has been completed and integrated into the Caroldale Learning Community School in Carson, Calif.  Named the Caroldale Learning Community Library, the facility was built by Architects McDonald, Soutar & Paz, Inc. (Architects MSP) and commissioned by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).

The library is expected to provide a learning atmosphere that may be used by anyone from kindergarten-aged students to teenagers.  It was built to fit neatly into the already existing 5,550 sq.-ft. site, and includes sloped ceilings, skylights, and clerestory windows, all of which give the library an airy and well-lit appearance. A reception area, new reading sections, new study spaces, and a computer section were all added.

The architects that worked on the project include AIA Managing Principal Mike Soutar, AIA Principal Architect Edgar J. Paz and AIA Project Architect Nasrin Vassef.  Rounding out the team were structural engineers Wheeler and Gray, electrical and mechanical engineers M.A. Francis and Associates, landscape architect Jon David Cicchetti and civil engineer group Ashba Engineers Ltd.
