Stantec to Acquire Anshen + Allen

30 August, 2010

San Francisco-based architecture firm Stantec announced last week its strategic acquisition of Anshen + Allen, a small, global healthcare architectural firm with approximately 200 employees. The strategic business move aims to fulfill Stantec’s desire to build its architectural presence in the United States and increase its current capabilities.

“We also have a very good base of healthcare experience in our Buildings group that includes architecture, project management, and buildings engineering. Anshen + Allen builds on that base and will make us a North American leader in healthcare sector,” adds Jay Averill, Stantec manager of communications.

In a release, Bob Gomes, Stantec president and chief executive officer, says that the acquisition will bring the firm expertise in healthcare and education design, and Anshen + Allen’s reputation will help bolster Stantec’s own international recognition.

Clients shouldn’t worry about seeing much change on their end, as “clients will still work with the same people they always have from Anshen + Allen,” says Averill. “What they will notice is that Anshen + Allen will have access to more technical resources and can provide more services, like buildings engineering and landscape architecture, in addition to having access to more office locations across the country.”

Roger Swanson, chief executive officer of Anshen + Allen, will continue his career in a Stantec leadership position. “As one of the world’s top health care practices, joining together allows us to plan strategically for our future as our industry undergoes profound global changes,” he says.

Anshen + Allen’s notable portfolio includes projects such as the new University of California, San Francisco Medical Center at Mission Bay; the Veterinary Research Tower renovation at Cornell University; and the Physical Sciences Building at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The firm is considered a leader in healthcare facility design in the United Kingdom, as well as the United States.
