Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), in collaboration with Canadian firm Dialog, has unveiled its design for the multiuse TELUS Sky tower in Calgary. The building will accommodate office space, condo residences, retail, and a public art gallery. The smooth glass façade surrounding 430,000 square feet of office space twists upwards to a “three-dimensional composition” of residential balconies.
“The resultant silhouette expresses the unification of the two programs in a single gesture—in rational straight lines composed to form a feminine figure,” according to a statement about the project.
Green space, including a rooftop garden and vertical garden that doubles as an entry atrium, also plays a key role in the design. The project will seek LEED Platinum certification for eco-sensitive tactics such as stormwater management system to recycle rainwater and using 80 percent less energy than similar developments.
