Penn State has approved plans by Cambridge, Massachusetts-based architecture firm Gund Partnership for a $44.6 million addition and renovation to the university’s student union. The Hetzel Union Building (HUB) and Robeson Center will undergo a renovation of a 52,000 square feet of space and receive a 54,800-square foot expansion that emphasizes gallery seating and natural light.
The HUB-Robeson Center project addresses students’ requests for additional seating, programming space, and multipurpose space. Students will have access to a patio overlooking a new green roof above the bookstore. A THON retail store, two-story multipurpose flex theater, and more prominent location for student leadership and activities are also part of the plan.
