Northwestern Shortlists Three Firms for New Biomedical Research Hub

03 July, 2013

-By Holly O'Dell

Northwestern University has shortlisted three teams to design a biomedical research facility at its Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. The firms—each of which has a Chicago architect on the project—are Perkins + Will; Goettsch Partners and Ballinger; and Adrian Smith+Gordon Gill Architecture and Payette.

Northwestern’s Board of Trustees selected the finalists after inviting architects with experience designing similar buildings to submit expressions of interest and statements of qualifications. The shortlisted teams will provide a model and drawings, which will be on display to the public and university community for review. Larry Booth, founder and principal/director of Booth Hansen, is serving as the local architect on the selection and design review team. The board expects to choose a final design this fall.

The new research building will rise on the site of the Prentice Women’s Hospital, whose imminent demolition has prompted criticism from preservationists.
