OMA has been selected as the master planner and lead architect for a mixed-use development located adjacent to the O2 Arena on London's Greenwich Peninsula. Known as Morden Wharf, the 19-acre Thames riverfront project will redevelop a former sweeteners refinery into housing, cultural, and leisure facilities.
“This is a world-class site, one of very few significant London riverfronts left for major regeneration,” Richard Upton, CEO of Cathedral Group, the project’s developer, said in a statement. “We needed a world-class architect and we found one in OMA. We share a passion for creating great, inspiring places with real heart and soul, investing in the very best design to foster inspiring local communities.”
Morden Wharf will be a significant component in the redevelopment of the peninsula to include facilities for sports, entertainment, and education while linking to historic Greenwich.
